2009 Recipes


Ingredients:
50 (14 oz. pkg. light caramels)
1/2 c. evaporated milk or light cream
2 c. flour
1 1/2 c. firmly packed brown sugar
1 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. butter or oleo, melted
1 c. (6 oz. pkg.) semi sweet choc. chips
1 c. chopped pecans


Method:
Melt caramels in evaporated milk, in a heavy saucepan. Cool slightly. Combine remaining ingredients except for chocolate chips and pecans in a large mixing bowl. Press 1/2 crumb mixture into bottom of 13 x 9 pan. Bake for 10 minutes. Remove from oven. Sprinkle with chocolate pieces and pecans. Spread carefully with caramel mixture. Sprinkle with remaining crumb mixture. Bake for 15-20 minutes or longer, or until golden brown. Chill for two hours, cut into bars. Serve.

Oatmeal Carmeletto's are delicious cookies made
from layers of chocolate, caramel, pecans, and an
oatmeal mixture for the cookie crust. They are
particularly enjoyed for the holidays. This recipe
belonged to Mildred Petersen, who was a dear
friend of the family. These were one of the dozens
of Christmas Cookies she made every year.
