The first step to making a porcelain doll is the motivation
to get started.  So many people say, "I could never do
that, I'm not creative"! The truth is, you won't know if you
can, if you never try it. The most important part of making
a porcelain doll is that you enjoy doing it.
There are several different types of mediums that you can
use for sculpting.  Greasy Clay, wet clay, or mediums that
you can bake which can not be reused. I use the greasy
clay, because it is firm enough to shape, and it does not
dry out like the wet clay does.  Plus, you can reuse it!
A sculpting stand is used to
support the head, while
sculpting, and brings it to
eye-level.
A wide assortment of tools can be used to sculpt
with.  Use whatever works for you.  Some people
even use their fingernails! Different tools help
with different details.
